Made in Belgium
A movie of FRANÇOISE GILAIN AND PATRICK LEMY
Synopsis
A survey by Françoise Gilain, directed by Patrick Lemy and produced by Triangle7 and RTBF. A positive film, engaged, but necessary in this period of recovery, economic uncertainty, and future. Draw up an inventory to show what is still the place of industry today in the economy, and how this industrial activity, conceived as a manufacturing production chain, ranging from the transformation of raw materials to products finished consumables, is structuring, this is the challenge of the film. This study is done by replacing the current situation in a historical perspective. Belgium is connected to neighboring countries which have also experienced a gradual deindustrialisation of their economy. Belgium is just one example of a larger phenomenon affecting the European continent. But is this deindustrialization inevitable? This is what we will try to find out, based on the example of Germany or the United States: two remarkable cases, which are today at the center of all the debates.
